Our Story
Our story began in 2003, but everything changed in 2023.
In the small Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge infamous for the Cragg Vale Coiners who conducted the biggest fraud in British history, for making the 70’s classic corduroy trouser and for being the home of poet Sylvia Plath stands the original Nathan’s Barbers. Founded in 2003 by Nathan Lockwood.

What began as a small business over two decades ago has in recent years become the UK’s fastest growing barber brand and now helps hundreds of thousands of clients maintain and evolve their style with the goal of making them feel good.
Small town to big cities
In 2023, Nathan met a client after work for a beer at the Old Gate in Hebden Bridge. Nathan and the client wondered “What if you opened a barbers in every gym worth visiting?”… “What if, people could use the gym and get their haircut at the same time?! How much time would that save people? They could shower straight after having their haircut and head out ready to face the world”.

In all honesty Nathan thought … “Sounds good. A great idea! Not much will come of that”.
But a couple of weeks later Nathan gets a call from that same client who told him “I’ve got 15 centres that want the barbers - we need a chat”.
Nathan met the client and his business partner and together they forged a simple plan … To take Nathans to every gym worth using.
WHY? Because people want to complete their look where they spend time crafting it. That’s at gyms and sports centres - they don’t want to make extra time to visit a barber given the choice.
That’s why we operate inside gyms UK wide.
Nathan together with his new business partners started growing the brand and expanding becoming the UK’s fastest growing barbers.
It’s still about great cuts and trim, but at Nathan’s delivering on feel good is at the heart of what we do.
We are still not as infamous as the Cragg Vale Coiners - but we are trying!
